Digital platforms become nowadays deeply integrated into our daily lives and cast their tremendous impact on the economy. They are shaping our daily information consumption (Facebook, Twitter), enable enterprises with technologies for establishing disruptive business models, overtake the leadership in traditional established industries (Airbnb, Uber). Moreover, e-commerce technologies develop at high pace, and many more firms started using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) as part of their marketing strategies. Platforms affect the way we looks for jobs (LinkedIn, Monster) and the way we work (freelancing platforms, like oDesk). Finally, platform-based technologies disrupt financial sector competing with large and established financial institutions (cryptocurrencies, automated transfers with Transferwise or Paypal). In this course, we will learn in greater detail about digital platforms, their business models and competition strategies, and also how they generate and use consumer data to grow and develop their businesses.
